The 4th NATREG-project meeting has been taking place from June30th up to and including the 2nd July 2010 in Carinthia at various locations in Klagenfurt, Bad Eisenkappel/Vellacher Kotschna and the National Park Nockberge.
On the first day the Steering Committee Meeting (SCM) and Quality Management Board (QMB) have been held at the Sandwirth Hotel in Klagenfurt.
To conclude the evening the NATREG-participants followed the invitation of the City of Klagenfurt to visit the City Vineyard ”Seewiese”. After a presentation on urban planning and nature conservation in Klagenfurt, given by the head of the urban planning department Robert Piechl, a wine tasting of local wines has been held by the local winemaker.
The second and the third day were dedicated to partner training issues.
After the delivery of keynote addresses and guest lectures, workshops on various topics in the field of protected area management and participation have been taking place on the second day. Useful tools for the optimization of public participations processes have been imparted to the attendees.
The 30th June being the NATREG-Day of the project partner Carinthia, was an appropriate occasion to hold a press conference. Apart from Carinthia-Coordinator Andreas Berchtold and NATREG-Project Leader Gregor Danev, also the Provincial Government Member Uwe Scheuch and the Principal of the University of Klagenfurt Heinrich C. Mayr were giving their statements and answering questions of the press.
After the day’s work had been completed there was a reception, hosted by the Carinthian Government in the “House of Artists” in Klagenfurt. The exhibition “natur.pur.2010” and the relaxing music were providing an inspiring background for communication and international exchange. Students and alumni of the master course of science for the “Management of Protected Areas” at the Alpe-Adria-University of Klagenfurt as well as the participants of the meeting for “Protected Area Management” conducted by “Netzwerk Land”, were joining the NATREG-meeting participants for this evening.
The Participants left Klagenfurt for the second day of the partner trainings. After a bus trip through the mountainous landscape of the Karawanks, the meeting carried on in the pilot area of the “Vellacher Kotschna”. After the presentation of the municipality of Bad Eisenkappel-Vellach and the guest lectures, a visit to the protected area was scheduled. The outdoor trainings on the subject “Visitor guidance- visitor management” were taking place with splendid summer weather in the Vellacher Kotschna.
On the last day an excursion to the National Park Nockberge has been organized for the particularly interested and committed participants. Presentations by Barbara Kircher (Carinthian alpine pasture inspector) and Norbert Kerschbaumer (Berchtold land.plan) on the subject of the Carinthian Alpine Pasture Revitalisation Programme and the visit of “best practice examples” gave the international audience an insight into the management of alpine pastures with the focus on rural development and nature conservation.
