About the organisation:
The IRSNC was founded in 1999, when the Law on nature protection was proclaimed. The IRSNC has employed 68 full time employees for regular activities of the Institute and several other employees on projects. The Institute's key activities are:

- Collection of data on plant and animal species, their habitats and ecosystems, registration and evaluation of separate nature's components;
- Management of databases concerning natural values and biodiversity components and monitoring of the state of nature preservation, biodiversity and the state of natural values;
- Preparation of nature-conservancy guidelines and cooperation in the preparation of plans for the protected areas management;
- Cooperation in the preparation of nature-conservancy education program, and care for public awareness building as to the significance of nature conservation.
Organisation role in the NATREG project:
IRSCN has a role as a Lead partner and therefore cooperates in all work packages (WP) of the project, as follows: Transnational project management and coordination (WP1), Communication and dissemination (WP2), Joint strategy for integrated management (WP3), Training and knowledge management (WP4), and Development of integrated management plans (WP5). IRSCN is also a responsible partner of for WP1 and WP.
