Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for Nature Conservation with cooperation of external experts from ACTUM Ltd. prepared a study on evaluating ecosystem services for small protected area on Pohorje. Study followed the guidelines on economic evaluation of ecosystem services which are a part of the NATREG’s Joint Strategy for Integrated Management of Protected Areas in the SEE. Study is called Economic evaluation of ecosystem services of the lakes Lovrenška jezera.
Lovrenška jezera represents the most southern and the largest active raised bog in Slovenia. This is the first study on ecosystem services in Slovenia in which we wanted to show the »hidden« values of protected areas. We calculated total economic value for two scenarios: 1st is with conservation and the 2nd without conservation of Lovrenška jezera. Study showed that conservation for the next 50 years is needed if we do not want to loose 151 millions euro of the ecosystem services.
We wish you a pleasant reading.

Games:
- New Construction of the Road
- Construction of the Ski Slop
- Construction of the Hydroelectric Power Station
The main objective of the presented didactic game is to acquaint players with the gist and significance of sustainable development, nature conservation and adjustment of different interests in society in empirical way, i.e. through solving a certain problem that simulates a true situation. The basic thesis of the game is that through the knowledge of ecology as well as mutual communication and understanding it is possible to plan the society’s development in a manner that will preserve the natural balance in ecosystems and provide, in a long term, for a healthy and safe living environment.
The game does not have a single correct solution. Any variant can be correct, the most pertinent being the detailed explanation and discussion on the final decision.
You are welcome to print the game and play it.
